How Going to that Networking Event You're Dreading Can Change Your Business

How many times have you signed up for a networking event that you didn’t even end up going to? When the time comes to go we paralyzed with fear and questions.

  • Is it really worth it?

  • Will I find someone to talk to?

  • Will I be able to connect with anyone?

  • How many people are really going to be there anyway?

  • and on, and on, and on....

We end up talking ourselves out of going. We find reasons not go—errands need completed, car needs washed, the event won’t be worth it—these reasons only hold us back from the true opportunity that the event might have provided.

The introvert in me has these same questions and self doubting thoughts before every networking event I attend.

But the key principle that keeps me going to networking events and luncheons is,

“You never know who is going to be there and you don’t know who someone knows.”

I know we have all experienced the regret of missing a party after finding out that someone famous showed up or something cool happened that’s unforgettable, and we missed out on the opportunity to experience this because we couldn't or didn't go to the party.

This holds true for networking events or luncheons. You never truly know what will happen, who you will meet, and who that person might know.

Maybe a key player in your field of business will be there or you meet someone who knows how to get you in the door with a company you have been calling on for weeks.

Push past those negative thoughts and questions when deciding on attending a new experience. The opportunity the event provides might change your life if you meet the right person. But you’ll never know what could have been if you don’t push yourself to go.
